ABWAK Mock Rock Workshop
SORRY THIS EVENT HAS SOLD OUT
Learn the basic principles of creating mock rock by building your own from scratch. Not currently taught in workshop format, this is a unique opportunity brought to our members for the first time by ABWAK over 2 days, with expert trainers from Unreal Productions, and kindly hosted by Northumberland Zoo. An incredibly lucrative skill which can be replicated within the workplace for smaller exhibits and completed in-house rather than paying for an external contractor. Places are very limited due to the close teaching techniques so don't miss out and get your tickets early!
Delegates learn the basics and create their own ‘pet rock’ or ‘tree stump’ in their workspace to take home.
Day 1:
- Mock rock overview with short presentation showing examples of application
- Planning your creation
- Building of framework
- Meshing framework
- Application of scratch coat
Day 2:
- Demonstration of carving both rock and tree stump by looking at reference material
- Application of top coat with carving techniques for both rock and stump
- Looking at examples around the Zoo: Snow Leopards, Wild Theatre, Cafe, Parrot House
- Painting/finishing projects
Bookings will not be confirmed unless online registration is completed and full payment has been made. Due to the small group size we will only be allowing a maximum of two delegates from any one animal collection/college, and it is ONLY open for ABWAK members. Cost for ABWAK members £150. Refreshments and lunch are included in the price.
ABWAK provide grants for our members to help fund attendance at our events. Check out the grants page in the members' area of our website for application forms.
