Another first for ABWAK, and we are delighted to be bringing you this two day workshop for a very under rated family of animals. Kindly hosted by ZSL London Zoo and organised by a collaboration of passionate suid keepers from Chester, Wild Place and ZSL, who want to share their knowledge and expertise in the care of these species and are inviting other suid keepers to do the same.
Topics to be covered will include:
- History of Suids at London Zoo and Suid Taxonomy
- Red River Hog station and hand injection training
- Red River Hog TAG update
- Nutrition
- Tony Nevin, Osteopath - laser therapy on Red River Hogs
- ZSL Whipsnade breeding success and ultrasound of Visayan warty pigs
- Johanna Rode-White, Cologne Zoo, Chair of IUCN Wild Pig Specialist Group - Wild Pig Conservation and the Threats Faced from African Swine Fever
- Babirusa husbandry
Plus practical sessions on enrichment building and body condition scoring, open discussion for peer to peer learning and sharing, and animal enclosure tour.
Don't miss out - put this date in your diaries!
